Texas Homeschool Voucher NewsThe TEFA vendor finder
Home / Guides / Faith-based curriculums that take TEFA

You can pay for a religious curriculum with your TEFA voucher. How to pick from all 48.

48 vendors on the state's curriculum list describe themselves as faith-based, but the list doesn't say which tradition, what they teach, or what they cost, so we read every site. 27 say Christian, 4 say Catholic, 2 say Reformed, and 16 don't name a tradition at all. And only 10 teach every subject.

If you're looking for…

Every subject, Christian, one publisher
You want one Christian program that covers everything. Your TEFA funds pay for Alpha Omega ($110 to $440 a year, free trial), Heart of Dakota ($331 a year, samples online), My Father's World ($265 to $651), Sonlight ($984 to $1,308, samples), or HeroesMart (says TEFA, price on request).
Every subject, Catholic
You want a Catholic program for the whole day. Catholic Heritage Curricula covers preschool to 8 for $108 to $378 a year with samples online. If you'd rather build it subject by subject, Seton sells each one for about $18, or try Catholic Textbook Project.
Reformed
Living Heritage Homeschool ($99 to $419 a course, K to 12, samples) covers the full day, and Little Pilgrims Theology ($120 a year) adds catechism.
A live teacher
You want classes at a set time with a real person. Blue Manor Academy ($30 to $200 a month, PreK to 12) lets you try it first.

These aren't the only ones; all 48 are on the state's finder.

  1. Does it cover every subject, or just one? The table below says.
  2. Which tradition, in their own words? Sixteen of the 48 don't say, so ask.
  3. Who teaches? Most are parent-led. Blue Manor is the one with live classes.
Before you pay, ask: "Is this exact product approved for TEFA?" The state approved the vendor, but the marketplace approves items. Ask in writing, then order through Odyssey.

How to pick a religious curriculum in an afternoon

Two samples, one check, and one trial order. Then you buy the year.

Hour one: two samples from your tradition

If you wantTry these
Every subject, Christian, one publisherAlpha Omega ($110 to $440 a year; free trial; says TEFA) · Heart of Dakota (about $331 a year; samples) · My Father's World ($265 to $651 a year)
Every subject, CatholicCatholic Heritage Curricula ($108 to $378 a year; samples) · Seton, subject by subject (about $18 each; samples)
Reformed or classicalLiving Heritage Homeschool ($99 to $419 a course; samples) · Veritas Press ($579 a course; samples)
Live classes, ChristianBlue Manor Academy ($30 to $200 a month; try first)
One subject to add onNotgrass (history) · Apologia (science) · Biblioplan (history and Bible). Good add-ons, but not a full day.

Hour two: the two-word check

  1. Every subject? The vendor's own site will say. If it lists "Bible" or "history" and nothing else, it's a one-subject program, and your kid still needs math, reading, and science from somewhere.
  2. Which grade? Take the placement test if there is one, because the grade on the box is only a guess.

Hour three: order the trial through the marketplace

  1. In Odyssey, search the vendor's name and open the smallest listing, whether that's a month, a sample pack, or one subject.
  2. Order that, not the year. Over the next two weeks, notice whether your kid opens it without being asked. If they do, that's a good sign it's the one to buy for the whole year.
Make sure the whole year is covered. Twelve of the 48 teach one subject, like a Bible course. Pair one with a full curriculum so your $2,000 covers math and reading too.
