How to pick one of the 188 curriculums that take the TEFA voucher.

After reading every single one of the 188 vendor sites, we found only 18 teach every subject, and only 47 of them say "TEFA" on their own page. The options below are the ones that fit each situation and show a price or a trial.

On the finder today

The counts in this guide are from the date in its sources. The finder is refreshed weekly from the state's list, checked October 26, 2026.

If you're looking for…

A single program with every subject, on a laptop
Your student works mostly on their own. Your TEFA funds pay for Alpha Omega Monarch (free trial), Connected Learning ($14.95 a month, free trial), or Harmony Online Learning. Try one for a week before you buy the year.
Printed books while you teach
You're the teacher with books on the table. Alpha Omega LIFEPAC, Treehouse Schoolhouse (full-year kits), or The Curriculum Store, which lets you mix kits from several publishers in one cart. All three say TEFA on their sites.
Live teachers on a schedule
If you want a real person teaching at a set time. Blue Manor Academy ($29.99 to $199.99 a month) lets you try it first. It is on the state's list, but ask about the exact item before you order.
Charlotte Mason or classical
Heart of Dakota (Charlotte Mason, samples online) or Veritas Press (classical, $579 a course). Both are on the list.
The least spent on curriculum
You want the rest of the $2,000 to go to a tutor. Connected Learning covers every subject for $129 a year, and Educate Your Way is $19.99 a month with a 7-day trial.

These fit the most common situations and already show a price or a trial. They aren't the only options: all 188 are on the state's finder, finder.educationfreedom.texas.gov.

Four quick checks you can do in a couple minutes

  1. Does it cover every subject, or just one? The vendor's own site will tell you, and most of the 188 sell a single subject.
  2. Who does the teaching? A live teacher, recorded lessons, or you. Be honest about how many hours you have.
  3. Is there a placement test? Take it, so you're not guessing at a grade level.
  4. Can you try it first? A free trial or a sample week tells you more than a screenshot ever will.
Ask this before you pay: "Is this exact product approved for TEFA?"

How to pick a curriculum in an afternoon

It'll take a couple of hours. You'll do a trial order, a small test, and from there you can see which one you want to buy for the year.

Hour one: pull two samples

Every one below shows a price and a way to try it.

If you wantTry these:
Every subject, online, on their ownAlpha Omega Monarch (free trial; says TEFA) · Connected Learning ($14.95 a month; free trial; says TEFA)
Every subject, printed, you teachTreehouse Schoolhouse (full-year kits; says TEFA) · The Curriculum Store (kits from several publishers; says TEFA)
Live teachers on a scheduleBlue Manor Academy ($30 to $200 a month; try first) · ask any of the 18 whether it runs live classes
Charlotte Mason or classicalHeart of Dakota (samples) · Veritas Press ($579 a course; samples)
Lowest cost, leaving room for a tutorConnected Learning ($129 a year) · Educate Your Way ($19.99 a month; 7-day trial)

Hour two: the placement test

  1. Most of the 18 have one. Take it before you pick a grade, because the grade on the box is only a guess.
  2. If there isn't one, have your kid do the first lesson of the grade you think is right, then the grade below it, and pick the level they can mostly do without you.

Hour three: order the trial through the marketplace

  1. In Odyssey, search the vendor's exact name and open the listing for the trial or the smallest unit, a month or a single subject.
  2. Order that instead of a year. The vendor confirms it and the order shows up in your history.

The two-week test: did your kid open it without being asked, and did you know what to do when they got stuck? If the answer to both is yes, buy the year. If either is no, try the other sample.

Before you order: the state approves vendors and Odyssey approves items. In the finder's own words, listed vendors "still need specific offerings approved for the Odyssey Marketplace." Ask "is this exact product approved for TEFA?" and order the one they confirm.
